Posted by Isha Farhad On April - 30 - 2010

Milan_expoThe Milan International Furniture Fair is considered as the most important design event in the world. It attracts the most talented and inspiring from the designing world.

So, as at the center stage, the world’s most renowned designers converge to highlight their gorgeous designs in these difficult economic times, the eco-friendly factor was the attraction. It has the target at the green-minded consumers with smaller budgets.

The Milan expo saw unique blends of metal and wood that marked the taste of the moment and also explained which direction designers are heading to express themselves. At the Milan Furniture Fair,  among the most gorgeous designs featured this year were De Castelli’s a wrought-iron furniture that double as planters, Italian designer Alessio Pappa’s lounger and Michael Koening’s metal sculptures shaped like trees.

knight-xv-conquest-vehiclesIt was regarded as the most luxurious SUV of the time when  Conquest Vehicles revealed the KNIGHT XV. But the €1million Dartz Monaco Red Diamond Edition took away the title after claiming itself to be the world’s most luxurious, strongest and expensive armored car.

But, the biofuel – powered KNIGHT XV has added more than 60 new security and luxury upgrades, probably to reclaim the title.
New changes include a turbo kit, a commercial-grade multi-link air-ride suspension system, a high-performance front brake system with  12 pot calipers and 15.5 inch rotors.

A 24-inch vehicle extension package to fit  my friends and family and right-hand drive conversion to suit the country’s traffic norms and an amazing addition is an onboard black-box system that constantly has the multiple layers of armor and record button on help push the KNIGHT XV’s weight to 12,000 pounds.

So, I think you should ready to be knighted.

Posted by Yogesh Kumar On April - 29 - 2010

H&W's_motorcycleThis 1894 Hildebrand & Wolfmüller motorcycle is the the first-ever patented ‘motorrad’ and is the last thing bike and enthusiasts would love to lay their hands on.

Bonhams auctioned this the 1894 Hildebrand & Wolfmüller and I am sure it gave goose bumps to those who cherish the ultimate engineering masterpieces and automotive designs.

In Munich, this essential piece of motorcycle history was manufactured by H&W and it was the first powered two-wheeler to  enter series production.

At the weekend (April 25), the first-ever series produced motorcycle was for sales at Bonhams Important Pioneer, Vintage and Collectors’ motorcycles.

The Hildebrand brothers, Wilhelm and Heinrich, were among many engineers to experiment with steam power, then turning it into a two-stroke gasoline engine.

In partnership with his mechanic, Hans Geisenhof and Alois Wolfmüller, the quartet succeeded in producing a water-cooled, four-stroke parallel twin capable of displacing 1,488cc still the largest power unit ever fitted to a motorcycle, until recent times.
There had been steam-driven “boneshakers” on both sides of the Atlantic.

Auctioned with an estimate of £40,000-60,000, this essential piece sold for £86,200, inclusive of buyer’s premium.

Lost-and-Found Apple’s Next iPhone

Posted by Isha Farhad On April - 27 - 2010

Apple's_Next_iPhoneThis is Apple’s next iPhone and was found lost in a bar in Redwood City, covered to look like an iPhone 3GS. It has been noticed that the features in this lost-and-found next-generation iPhone are completely new and drastically different from what came before.

Here’s the detailed list about Apple’s next iPhone:

1.What’s new

2.Front-facing video chat camera

3.Camera flash

4.Improved regular back-camera (the lens is larger than the iPhone 3GS)

5.Improved display. It is not clear if it is the 960×640 display thrown around before, it certainly looks like it, with the ‘Connect to iTunes’ screen displaying much higher resolution than on a 3GS

6.Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM (like the iPad)

7.Split buttons for volume

8.Power, volume and mute buttons are all metallic

What are the changes?

1.The back is completely flat, made of either glass or ceramic or shiny plastic for the cell signal to poke through. Tapping on the back makes a more higher and hollow pitched sound compared to tapping on the glass on the front/screen, but that could just be the orientation of components inside making for a different sound

2.Slightly smaller screen than the 3GS (but higher resolution)

3.An aluminum border going completely around the outside

4.16% Larger battery

5.3 grams heavier

6.Everything is more squared off

7.Internals components are miniaturized, shrunken and reduced to make room for the larger battery

So, what is your opinion about the product? Please share with me here.

Air Force’s Super-Secret Space Plane Launches

Posted by Isha Farhad On April - 26 - 2010

Space_PlaneThe Air Force’s Mysterious unmanned X-37B space plane hitching a ride on an Atlas V rocket on 22nd April. Nobody knows when it is coming back or what its mission is.

About the X-37B, the rumors have been building for a few years now, ever since this project came under the auspices of the Department of Defense and it became classified in 2004.

Will it be weaponized? Is it for intelligence gathering? or is it nothing more than orbital delivery truck? From the Air Force’s official description of the program:

“A flexible space test platform to conduct several experiments and allow satellite sensors, components, subsystems and associated technology to be transported efficiently to and from the space environment. The service directly supports the Defense Department’s technology risk-reduction efforts for some new satellite systems. It will prove new components and technology before those technologies are committed to operational satellite programs by providing an ‘on-orbit laboratory’ test environment.”

The X37B is co-developed by Boeing and is just 29 feet long and it can stay in orbit for up to nine months.

For now, the main ambition seems to be if the Air Force can successfully retrieve it in good condition to re-use.
