The Honda Jazz is a popular hatchback car, currently sold in Europe, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand. According to Masahiro Takadegawa, president and CEO of Honda SIEL cars, the Jazz is the most probable candidate to fill the small car space in India.

Once a small car like the Jazz enters the Indian automobile market, Honda would have a car in every category. The pricing in the Indian market would be tricky, as the Jazz has to be profitable for Honda, as well as stay reasonably below the Honda City to ensure it doesn’t cannibalise the low end Honda City cars.

Many people who have been bugged by the beauty of Honda cars and could not afford one so far due to high starting point are now rejoicing.

They said that they could not go for a premium car like Hoda City, but now with Jazz in the market they can dream of owning a Honda car.

Honda’s second generation Jazz’s has all:

  1. Appealing packaging
  2. Stylish exteriors
  3. Excellent fuel efficiency
  4. Space with good head and leg room
  5. Great performance

You may fall in love with Jazz at first sight. Get inside, it can comfortably seat five adults with their luggage. An intelligent dual and sequential ignition system (I-DSI) has been used. This puts two spark plugs in every cylinder, which betters fuel combustion and decreases emission.

It is capable of returning a fuel efficiency of 16.1 kmpl, which is confirmed from ARAI test data. The 1.2 i-VTEC engine of Jazz met the Euro IV emission norms and is E10 compatible like other Honda engines.

It shares the seats with accord and its steering wheel resembles civic. It is stylish and embellish typical Honda design – sharp lines and central bonnet ridge. Honda Jazz sharp headlamps supplements the steeply raked windscreen but the front grille resembles the CR-V. Alloy wheels and ellipsoidal glass area decorates the Jazz side.

There are just three trim levels in Jazz:  the S, SE and Sport SE. In S models, you will get power steering, electric front windows and twin airbags. Move one level up, you’ll get alloys, CD player, ABS and air-conditioning in the SE model. The top SE Sport model has nothing more than others but it offers front fog lights and subtly racier looks.

So, let see will Indian consumers do salsa after the launch of Jazz in 2009? Wait and watch!
