The Hummer HX: A Four-Cylinder Engine

I remember last year, the Hummer HX was revealed on 8 January 2008 manufactured by General Motors and is a concept Off-road vehicle or Compact SUV. The Hummer HX is an open-air, two-door off-road vehicle and is powered by a 3.6 L SIDI V6 that is E85 FlexFuel capable. A 2.4 L SIDI 4 cylinder option would likely to come that makes it the very first Hummer with a four-cylinder engine.

The Hummer HX is smaller than both the H2 and H3 and more compact than a HUMMER H3 which is 81 inches (2,057 mm) wide with a 103-inch wheelbase (2,616-mm). A trio of young designers who are new to the HUMMER studio has developed the ideas for its design.

Following are the features of the Hummer HX:

•   Designed by a trio of young designers
•   Easily removable fender flares and doors
•   Convertible body with removable roof panels and modular rear roof assembly
•   Aeronautically inspired interior with functional, lightweight design elements
•   Full-time 4WD with front and rear locking differentials
•   3.6L SIDI V-6 E85 FlexFuel engine with six-speed automatic transmission
•   Reconfigurable instruments for highway and off-road driving

Additional convertible features are:

• Removable doors an appreciated feature of many serious off-roaders as it has easily removable pins in the exposed hinges allow the doors to be removed quickly
• Removable fender flares attached with quarter-turn quick-release fasteners can be quickly removed for additional trail/rock clearance, or if the flare is damaged during off-road driving

The vehicle has a pair of removable roof panels above the front passenger and driver. The Hummer HX also was designed with many roof assemblies, allowing it to be configured as an SUT. At the North American International Auto Show, the vehicle was shown with a slant-back configuration, was wearing a desert-inspired matte olive paint scheme and wagon-like design that offers a bit more cargo space.
