GoogleTvThe New York Times has it on good authority that Google, Sony and Intel have joint their hands to develop an Android-powered internet platform by using Atom processors for set-top boxes and Televisions. Dubbed Google TV seems to be making web app navigation (Picasa photo site,Twitter social network , etc.) as easy as changing the channel.

Some existing set-top boxes and televisions offer access to Web content, however the choice of websites is limited. Google intends to open its TV platform, based on its Android operating system for smartphones, to software developers. The company hopes the move will spur the same outpouring of creativity that consumers have seen in applications for cellphones.

Google is expected to deliver a toolkit to outside programmers within the next two months and products based on the software could appear soon this summer.

The three companies, Google, Sony and Inte have tapped Logitech, which specializes in computer speakers and remote controls for peripheral devices, including a remote with a tiny keyboard.

uk-folding-plugI have seen the  most genius concepts  in the past year. “We  could not be happier for one Min-Kyu Choi. Said designer, who graduated recently from the Royal College of Art. He was recently showered with laud after the Folding Plug nabbed the gold in the Brit Insurance Design contest.

The show has opened where the show-stopper was a plug. Min-Kyu Choi impressed every passer by with his neat, market-ready plug that folds down to the width of an Apple MacBook Air.  Choi says that
“The MacBook Air is the world’s thinnest laptop ever. But, here in the UK, we still use the world’s biggest three-pin plug”.

This plug is just 10mm wide when it’s folded.  The two live pins swivel 90 degrees to unfold it and the plastic surround folds back around the pins therefore, the face of the plug looks the same as a standard UK plug. Choi created a multi-plug adaptor, a compact standard plug sized unit with space for three folded plugs to slot in and also one that charges USB devices.

Unfortunately, we are still no closer to understand when some moneyed manufacturer will pick this up and start producing it, but I wish this prize will reinforce its awesomeness and will catch one’s eye.

U.S. plans to built the World’s most Expensive Embassy

Posted by Kamleshwar Bhatt On February - 27 - 2010

US-embassy-design-conceptThis is the time when the builders are more focused on survival and the housing industry is hurting so I think it will be a senseless to talk about a $ 1billion mega structure at this time. But a model of the  great design for the new U.S. Embassy for London is a special case and it is sure going to receive considerable worldwide attention, both for the overall spending on the project and for the exceptional design.

The embassy concept is designed by the Philadelphia-based firm KieranTimberlake and is proposed to be constructed in 500,000 square feet that features lofted halls and beaming ‘light art’ along with
carbon-neutral, energy-efficient, self-sufficient work of art in an urban park setup complete with ponds as well as pleasant sculptures.

The new U.S. Embassy that appears more like a crystal fortress would be the most expensive embassy ever built, overshadowing the $850 million embassy projected for Pakistan and $700 million sprawling compound in Iraq.

So, just get ready to see the new embassy somewhere between 2013 and 2017.

But Beau Reid, industrial design engineer has brought something to reflect my car’s personality. Yes! he has a new idea notion in the making with his custom-made carbon fiber briefcase to match the vehicle specs as he thought our briefcase should reflect our car’s personality.

In Beau Reid’s company called Dynamic Innovations, this is all happening, where each briefcase is custom made to match our automobile with interior and paint. Dynamic Innovations has created the most expensive briefcase ever by using the highest quality leather as well as paint to match vehicle specs.

The product prize is $15,000 but Beau Reid expects the price tag to drop down once the product goes mainstream in the future.

Facebook has become the Web’s No.1 Timesink

Posted by Yogesh On February - 17 - 2010

facebookIt has been found in US that Internet user spends more time on Facebook than on Google, YouTube, Yahoo, Microsoft, Wikipedia and Amazon combined. Just think about it for a moment.

Nielsen released new numbers that confirm what you have known for a while: Facebook is the web’s ultimate time sink. The more interesting though is how much more time you spend on the world’s largest social network today than you did 6 months ago.

In June 2009, Nielsen had estimated that the average U.S. user spent 4 hours and 39 minutes on Facebook in one month. It means about 9.3 minutes per day in a 30 day month. In August, the number of user spent rose to 5 hours and 46 minutes, or 11.5 minutes per day.

In January 2010 though, the amount of time the average person spent on Facebook jumped to over 7 hours. It has been estimated that each American Facebook user spent an average of 421 minutes on Facebook per month that amounts to over 14 minutes per day. Even if you lump together the time spent on Google (1:23), Yahoo (2:09), YouTube (1:02), Microsoft/Bing (1:35) Wikipedia (0:15) and Amazon (0:22), it still does not beat Facebook.

It also has been estimated that the average number of websites people visited rose by 8.4%, while the amount of time people were on the PC went down by 8.2%, but the conclusion seems to be Facebook’s still-meteoric rise.

How much time you spend on Facebook? Let’s discuss in the comments.

Posted by Isha Farhad On February - 17 - 2010

On Valentines day, a cuddly teddy bear was creating a buzz at the Gund booth at the American International Toy Fair in New York. This one-of-a-kind plush bear is made with white alpaca fur and features black Tahitian pearls for eyes is made with white alpaca fur and it wears a 10-carat diamond necklace with a white gold chain. This symbol of love and a cute gift among lovers is more of a keepsake rather than a kid’s toy. This cute Snuffles bear is bound to make anyone miss a heartbeat and that’s why it has been creating a buzz at the Gund booth at the American International Toy Fair in New York on this Valentines.

This cute toy’s value is a whopping $10,000, evidenced by the security guard standing watch over the glass-encased bear and that was also protected by a red-velvet rope barricade,  though it could go for more when it is put up for charity auction later this year.
