Recently, you have heard bad news for Hackintosh netbooks that Apple had disabled Atom support in a Mac OS X 10.6.2 beta. None of Apple’s hardware uses Atom, but some most popular netbooks do. Yes, a new OS X 10.6.2 (10C535) have brought the feature back means it has restored support for the processor and simultaneously brightened the spirits of hack into shers the world over.
Many possible explanations come to my mind that removing Atom support could have been an intentional, yet temporary, measure or it could have been a bug. On the other side, it may be flipping the Atom switch back on is temporary. I really do not know the truth because Apple has not indicated that whether it was simply a temporary measure or a bug or intentional although it also means that Apple can easily flip the switch again if it sees fit that seems like at least a 50 / 50 shot.
People are cautioned those with access to the developer seeds that there is no guarantee of the continuation of Atom support on to the publicly released version of the Snow Leopard patch.
So, Apple seems to have flip-flopped and reintroduced Atom support with the latest developer build of 10.6.2. For taking measures to keep its OS running exclusive on Macintosh hardware, the company is notorious; therefore it could still go either way.
But for now, you just enjoy having a netbook with the latest build of OS X.
