USB 3.0 DisplayLink Video launching in 2010

Posted by Kamleshwar Bhatt On December - 26 - 2009

USB 3.0DisplayLink Inc. has open its plans to launch a chip which enables video to run in “SuperSpeed” USB 3.0 standard devices by the end of 2010 that would allow its use in consumer products by the next Christmas.

DisplayLink enables monitors to receive signals via USB instead of through the more conventional cables that have been successful with USB 2.0. But a new world is about to open up with the launch of USB 3.0.

The third iteration offers up over ten times the bandwidth of v2.0 that would allow for best resolution support when channeling video. Really, USB 3.0 is the first USB protocol which could support a legitimate high-def video stream.

It is expected that a prototype device will be shown at CES next month transmitting content up to 4.8 gigabits per second. At least, USB 3.0-enabled DisplayLink would allow 30-inch panels to be connected to netbooks via USB without having rely on a sub-native resolution, but said netbooks will probably need a GPU with more oomph than the current Ion can offer.

So, it will take time to come. But yes on the next Christmas, you will have this product.
