Posted by Isha Farhad On January - 19 - 2010

Expensive-hamAccording to retailer Selfridges, “The world’s most expensive ham” is out on sale at the food hall in the retailer’s flagship store in Oxford Street, London. They believe that every single gram of it will be savored as the life’s incredible gourmet luxury. Then what makes the ham costly of as large a price tag as $2,940 or £1,800?

It is actually the amount of effort and care by pig farmer that has been put in and ham expert Manuel Maldonaout, from breeding to curing. He fed his 50 selected pigs on acorns and roots to give the ham a distinctive flavor and then left the ham to cure for three years.

The 7kg Iberico ham leg comes with its own DNA certificate as proof of authenticity. Manuel Maldonado, Pig farmer and ham expert selected 50 pigs that were reared in Extremadura in western Spain.

“So, for the rich as well as wealthy blessed with a gastronomical palate, it is the time to apreciate the melt-in-the-mouth texture of this truly amazing Spanish ham” said by Selfridges fresh food Buyer Andrew Cavanna.
